The lost post!
Sure you’ve played all those action packed games that make you find similar objects and match them in a row to get rid of them. I think the first one was Connect 4. But none of those games have very interesting features. The only special stuff is entirely run by chance and takes no skill! Those days are over, my friend! Because what we at Hex Hacker have in store for you, the beloved gaming community, is far greater than anything that has preceded us!
We’re talking about more interactivity! More , well, FUN for lack of a better word.
The game dynamics of Rune Raiders of Elder Futhark are almost entirely original. The basic concept is similar to some games, but that’s where we draw the line here. And to help make the game an even more interesting and fun packed experience, we came up with something new. Power Runes! And don’t forget Plunder!
First, let me list the Power Runes we have thought up for both basic game modes: Single Player and Multi-Player.
There are 10 POWER runes used in either mode. A total of 12, with 2 reserved for both Single Player and Multi-Player. 8 are used in both.
The 8 used in both:
1) Reveal Rune: Highlights the largest cluster of identical runes once so the player can find their next attack THAT MUCH EASIER. It’s not OP, it’s only a small advantage and not always useful, especially if you already have good eye sight. No offense meant to you blind people… then again, you probably aren’t reading this right now, huh?
2) Shrinky Rune: Gives smaller attacks (Tiny Triangles) x4 the amount of points. Small triangles are less than an inch in length ( or 72 pixels on most people’s resolutions). Anyway, the point is to make small attacks, which is a lot harder than it sounds. Making large attacks, unfortunately, has half the normal score to even things out a bit. Also not OP, because it has it’s pros and cons. Make small attacks quickly!
3) Quad Rune: If you like the TRIANGLE OF DOOM, then you’ll love the QUADRANGLE OF DESTRUCTION! For 5 seconds, you are able to select a 4th rune (of the same type), thereby creating a square of DEATH that will work in the same manner as the Triangle. Trust me, if you’ve played this game as much as me, you’d know just how useful this ability is. Like that vacuum that you see on Television for three easy installments of 19.99, this baby gets into all those hard to reach corners!
4) Burn Rune: Once activated, you have 5 seconds to cause as much collateral damage as you can! Every attack you make causes adjacent runes to catch fire and slowly burn. It takes 3 seconds for them to explode after they’ve caught fire, and best of all, you get to keep the score from those runes. Why is this one not OP? The time constraints… Probably not as effective if you are running out of time, but it sure is fun to watch those runes burn. BURN, BABY, BURN! We’re pretty mean to these poor runes, huh?
5) Rogue Rune: Activating this rune makes the game into a sort of Where’s Waldo game. Almost a scavenger hunt. For 20 seconds, a new type of rune worth 2X the normal amount will appear randomly like it is any other rune. The trouble is, they are all different colors. Also, they are the same colors as the other runes, so look sharp! I think it’s obvious why this power isn’t Over Powered.
6) Death Rune: Also known as the HAND OF DEATH. This sinister mercenary picks out random runes to destroy every second for 10 seconds and makes them EXPLODE VIOLENTLY. You get the equivalent of a four rune combo from each death, but be warned. It might end up destroying some of your own combos. It might even destroy YOU. Naw, I’m just pulling your leg. Maybe.
7) Omen Rune: An Omen was usually a good sign for a Viking. Some would even read signs before battle to divine the outcome. This Power Rune creates an abundance of a single type of rune. I am sure you’ll be able to find them, because they will be EVERYWHERE. There’s always a chance that this will create runes in bad spots. It’ll be up to your smart brain to decide which cluster to attack!
8) Reset Rune: The most basic rune, I saved for last. Well, last in the Power Runes you will use in both modes anyway. The Reset Rune does conveniently just like it’s name suggests. No, it won’t reset your game, but it will reset the playing field (as I like to call it), generating a whole new batch of runes. It’s best to save this one until you are out of all other options, as there is a chance it will not help at all. There’s a 50% chance that it could save your butt though.
Ok, now for the 2 runes you will be able to use in 1P mode.
1) Freeze Rune: This handy rune will stop time after you use it. Time will resume after your next attack. This is really handy if you take a while to find those super awesome combos. It is also handy if you need a pee break. Oops. Did I say that out loud? Well, don’t let it stop you from utilizing this rune for what ever purposes you can think of!
2) Runner Rune: Ever have one of those dreams where you’re running from something and no matter what you do, you cannot reach the door at the end of the hall way? It’s like it keeps moving away from you! Well, this rune works kind of the same way, except the door is the time clock and and the thing you are running from is a low score! After this activates you have 5 seconds (5!) to attack as many times as you can. Every attack will add valuable seconds to the time clock. Making small, easy attacks is key here! Trust me, it’s a lot harder than it sounds.
And the 2 runes only in PvP (Multi-Player) mode are…
1) Hex Rune: Causes a random assortment of beautiful CURSE RUNES to form on the other player’s playing field. Usually curse runes in PvP mode form when you make killer combos during regular play. This is like adding salt to your opponents already gangrenous wounds. So send a bouquet of lovely Curse Runes to a friend today!
2) Bless Rune: The opposite of the Hex Rune. You might be asking, “why would I want to get rid of my opponent’s Curse Runes?” You have it backwards, my friend! You get rid of those pesky runes that they gave to you! Really, I think what happens is it causes your Viking to sneeze so violently that all the Curses get blown away. Bless you.
Well, I think we’ve covered the PRs (Power Runes). We’ll talk more about Plunder when we get to that point. Until then, ta-ta!
S.L. Johnson, signing out (but not really).
